Our mix of skills and experience come together to work towards the increased well-being of the disadvantaged communities in Marrakech.
Dr K Clare McCaughey (Minejem)
Dr K Clare McCaughey (Minejem) MB BCh BAO MSc is a Medical Physician with a special interest in Emergency Medicine. She received her undergraduate medical degree from Queens University, Belfast in 2004, and after gaining some experience in the field of Emergency Medicine went on to complete a Masters in Tropical and Infectious Diseases at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in 2008, with her research based in Sa'na, Yemen. She moved to Marrakech, Morocco in the summer of 2008. She has contributed to many different aspects of the work of GMA. After several years of volunteering part time in the Ibn Tofail CHU hospital Emergency Room, she now works full time at Clinique le Marrakech. Dr McCaughey is the original vision-lead for Dar El Hanane. She is passionate about serving the medical community and the poor of Marrakech alike. She lives in Marrakech with her husband Khalid and young daughters Rania and Rayhanna.
Russell McCaughey BSc (Hons) is a retired University Lecturer and Northern Ireland Senior Civil Servant. He worked in the Department of Education Northern Ireland as a schools inspector specialising in construction education and training, and later in the engagement of disaffected learners (14-19). Russell transferred to the Department for Social Development where he was responsible for promoting voluntary and community development initiatives including the development of faith based social action projects in communities most affected by the Northern Ireland troubles. Married to Roberta with four grown up daughters and two grand-children, Russell is now a regular golfer having previously refereed rugby union back in Ireland at a senior level. In addition to fundraising, Russell is involved in individual charitable works on the ground on behalf of Dar al Hanane.
